However it is the citrus that are breaking my heart.

While some leaves remained green after the frost, a few turned brown right away, this made me think that there was hope for the plant despite the droopy green leaves. But, as the days go by, the droopy leaves are not perking up and the previously green leaves seem to be struggling.

So what is the guilty plant mama (me) to do? WATER!! Yesterday in the 80 degree heat, I realized, these plant are going to try and grow again, they need water.

But….

Our sprinkler pipe froze, and broke, so no automatic sprinklers. Yipes. I hauled a bucket of water for each of the four citrus trees, but I don’t think it was enough. Oh no, I thought, “Not only did I let these plants freeze, now that they are on the threshold of death requesting water, I can’t give them a decent drink”.

So, when I went to bed my plan was to get up and run some hoses, and set up a watering plan “B” as fixing the sprinklers is not even our our “to do” list.

But, when you are a gardener there is no such thing as bad weather and this morning I woke up to pouring rain. Drink up little lemon trees, drink up and live.

Venation in dead lemon leaf

Green leaves in background offer some hope.
