Start with Collard Greens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a raised bed with Collard Greens. \u00a0If you live in the south and want to start gardening, start with Collards. \u00a0They will come through for you. \u00a0Look how well the collards below turned out despite growing in the middle of an ant pile and remaining in their 4 inch pots. \u00a0Amazing!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_91\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-91\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-91\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okragardensupply.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/CollardBed-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-91\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raised bed with mature Collard Greens<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The corner was infested with fire ants<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-90\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okragardensupply.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/AntPileInBed2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A look at how a fire ant mound was built around the base of Collard Green plants<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But, the ants didn&#8217;t seem to effect the growth of the plants. \u00a0These plants started in four inch pots and I planned to transplant them to other beds but when the ant pile appeared I didn&#8217;t want to disturb and spread the ants around. \u00a0I added Diatomite and then just let it be. \u00a0But, you can see the neither the ants nor the four inch pots can keep Collard Greens from growing:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-92\" src=\"http:\/\/www.okragardensupply.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/CollardInFourInchPot-e1484655711207-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Notice how large the plant grew still in the little pot. Roots did escape the little pot.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Collards are the Honey Badger of the garden, &#8216;Collards don&#8217;t care!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>~Lisa<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
