We had a freeze recently. Though we knew the freeze was coming we were not able to cover our trees and they suffered. The freeze killed the great majority of the leaves and the leaves dropped from the plant. But what of the fruit? There were two grapefruit that we left on our grapefruit tree and about 3 days after the freeze the fruit dropped from the tree. The freeze caused the fruit to dry out in the inside and the fruit started to rot. Not appealing. So, if there is a freeze predicted your first priority is to get the fruit off the tree and indoors. It is as ripe and juicy as it is going to get!
