Solenposis invicta is the red imported fire ant. This ant is a native of South America that arrived in Mobile, Alabama in the early part of the 20th century. It is a master of utilizing disturbed areas so as the southern portion of the United States was transformed from small rural farms to a more homogeneous bulldozed landscape the ant found many pathways to spread.
The small ant is red in color and lives in colonies. Reports vary regarding why the animal is a pest. This blog and store is for the home gardener and the reason why I don’t like this little ant is because of its nasty and lingering sting.
The sting of a fire ant hurts! The sting of a fire ant is ugly, and slow to heal. Therefore, I recommend keeping your distance. But if the ant is in your space, it must move along and the best way to get it going is to use Diatomite.
