Watering

Small leaf frowing in dirt with water droplets around the edge of the leaf
This collard sprout from saved seed has a little too much water at its roots so it is pumping the water out it’s leaves.

The most important thing to your gardening success is water. The easiest way to ensure your plants get enough water is to do like I did, buy a house with automatic sprinklers.  If you don’t have automatic sprinklers much attention will need to be paid to the garden if you want to grow plants from seeds outside.  New starts need to remain moist which usually means watering at least twice per day.  If you have to run hoses, fill watering cans, or otherwise do a lot of schlepping around you need to have the proper tools and be mentally prepared.  Having a watering plan is critical to your success so before you put your plants in the dirt make sure you have are ready to keep them happy.
