The Curious Case of Bidens Alba

Overhead shot of a small sprout with soil and pine needles visible. Field of view 3 inches
Cotyledons and first two true leaves of a Bidens alba plant.

An introduction to Bidens alba

Bidens, as in two teeth.

Alba, as in white.

I call attention to this plant because it is a favorite of beneficial insects.  It grew wild in my life before I knew what it was.  I called it the assassin host daisy because it always seemed to have the beneficial assassin bug resting on its leaves.  Here is a photo of the assasin bug from milkweed assassin post.  So, sometimes to me the flower is the assassin host daisy, but more reliably, Bidens alba, or Bidens.  The photo above show the cotyledons and the first two true leaves.  A sprout is an example of a new beginning, and this is the just beginning of the story of Bidens.

To me this plant is a joy and a gift.

I understand why many consider it a weed.

That is why the case of Bidens alba is curious.

Seeds available in the store.
